Strašnice – A Garden City of Villas

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Strašnice began to transform into a garden city. Not only did picturesque Art Nouveau villas and Prague’s first sun baths spring up here, but construction continued even between the wars, when Josef Gočár and Pavel Janák jointly designed the Masaryk Villa Colony on Bylanská Street. Not far from there, the Rondocubist Svoboda Colony was built, most of which is located in Vinohrady. We’ll wrap up the walk with the hard-to-believe story of the former director of the MÚZO company from the 1980s.
